These iconic cookies are a mainstay for Purim. This take on the cookie is filled with chocolate hazelnut spread and colorful M&M’S for a nutty, sweet holiday treat.

Recipe Ingredients:

Red Velvet Brownies:

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup chocolate hazelnut spread
  • 3/4 cup M&M’s® Milk Chocolate
Directions:

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 45 minutes (+ 35 minutes standing time)

  1. In medium bowl, whisk together flour, salt and baking powder.
  2. In large bowl, using handheld electric mixer, beat together butter and sugar until pale, light and fluffy. Beat in egg, 1 tbsp water and vanilla until combined. On low speed, beat in half the flour mixture until incorporated. Beat in remaining flour mixture, scraping down sides of bowl as needed. Mix until dough comes together and is smooth and pliable.
  3. Transfer to lightly floured work surface; knead together a few turns. Roll dough to 1/8-inch thickness. Using 3 1/2-inch round cookie cutter, cut out 12 rounds, rerolling scraps as needed.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  5. Divide chocolate hazelnut spread evenly among centers of dough rounds. Divide M&M’S® into piles on top of spread. Fold the left side of round over on an angle, followed by the right side, forming a triangle. Fold the bottom up, tucking one end under the side flap and one end over the other side flap to make a pocket. The filling should still be visible. Firmly pinch corners to seal. Repeat to make 12 cookies.
  6. Transfer to parchment paper–lined baking sheet. Chill for 10 to 15 minutes.
  7. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until tops of dough are set and corners lightly golden. Let cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes. Transfer to wire rack to cool completely before serving.


Tips:

  • Substitute chocolate hazelnut spread with thick jam if preferred.
